What are they Facial Injectable Treatments?

A purified pharmaceutical grade protein which when injected into a muscle leads to a temporary muscular relaxation. Frown lines, worry lines and laughter lines are all caused by the repeated contractions of facial muscles. Relaxing these muscles with muscle relaxing injectable is a safe, quick, and effective way to smooth and soften many wrinkles. It’s a non-invasive procedure which can be done in your lunch (or coffee) break with minimal down time.

What will happen during the treatment?

We will undertake during your consultation a thorough facial analysis and detailed discussion before recommending an appropriate treatment plan that is targeted to your facial needs. The actual procedure takes just 5-10 mins and involves a small number of injections of muscle relaxant solution directly into the muscle groups causing wrinkling.

How safe is it?

Muscle Relaxant is considered a very safe medication. Which has been used for numerous decades and is now approved by medical authorities in over 70 countries worldwide

How quickly will I notice an effect?

You will be able to return to your normal daily activities immediately following treatment: there will be no visible changes. The full effect of the treatment will develop over the following 3-14 days.

Are there any side effects?

There may be slight discomfort as the needle enters the skin, and there is the possibility of a small bruise at the site of the injection. The effects are not permanent if you have any concerns their will be addressed thoroughly prior to treatment. No long term side-effects have been reported to date.

How long do Facial Injectable Treatments last?

Everyone is different however on average the results last anywhere between 4 to 6months.

How much does it cost?

At Morphett Vale Dental Care, Dr Guerra charges per area requiring smoothing not per unit of medication.
After a full comprehensive consultation about your rejuvenation, Dr Guerra will provide a full costing prior to your treatment. A two week follow up appointment will be organized where if there is the need of any additional administration of muscle relaxant there will not be an additional cost.

Who would this treatment suit?

As this treatment is primarily used for skin rejuvenation and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, it can be used on a wide range of patients. The anti-wrinkle agent is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows for a short period of time. It can also be injected into the area around the side of the eyes to improve the look of moderate to severe crow’s feet lines.

Who should avoid this treatment?

Those who have medical conditions, such as damaged nerves or muscle complaints, should disclose this information during consultation, to avoid any complications. Treatment it is also not advisable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. While there are no clinical studies to show that the injection is harmful to the baby or mother, medical professionals advise against having treatment under these circumstances.

Are there any other uses for Muscle Relaxant?

The most beneficial non-cosmetic treatment we can offer as dentists is the treatment for temporomandibular disorder or TMD.

Muscle relaxing injections into the masseter and temporalis/frontalis muscles (facial muscles) alleviate the forces of night time grinding and clenching (bruxism) which causes damage and wear to the teeth. It can cause joint pain and facial pain too.

Post Treatment Care?

We recommend our patients to avoid touching and/or massaging the area following the injections, to prevent the diffusion of solutions to adjacent muscles. Detailed post care instructions will be given to you.

What are ‘fillers’ and which areas can be treated?

They are designed to fill out and smooth away lines, wrinkles and folds and to add volume to lips. Dermal fillers achieve a more youthful appearance of the face as they replace lost volume and improve the contour of the skin, resulting in a fresher, more youthful appearance. This is an excellent treatment for nasal labial folds (from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth), smile lines, lip enhancement and facial contouring (such as cheeks and chins).

What is the filler?

HA (hyaluronic acid) is the main component of dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule found within our skin. It is biocompatible and ideal for cosmetic medical purposes.

What will happen during the treatment?

Following a through facial Phi analysis and detailed discussion of the proposed treatment plan; the treatment can be started straight away. The gel is injected into the skin in small amounts with a very fine needle, immediately lifting and smoothing out wrinkles with the natural volume it provides.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes to an hour.

How quickly will I notice an effect?

The results are instantaneous.

What brand of filler to you use? 

There are many brands and types available. However, we pride on only using the latest generation fillers which result in the most natural aesthetic outcome for every patient.

How long will the treatment last?

This varies from individual to individual. It very much depends on factors such as a person’s age and lifestyle, the degree of correction required and the structure of the skin. Most patients choose to have a repeat treatment within a year, since the main component of the product (hyaluronic acid) is a natural substance which dissolves over time.

What are the possible side effects?

This is a very safe treatment. The substance is highly biocompatible and biodegradable. A local anaesthetic is used to minimise any discomfort at the time of injection. Bruising, redness and some slight swelling at the site of treatment does sometimes occur, although rarely lasts more than a few days.

What to expect after treatment? 

The area will feel a little tender and swollen for a few days, we recommend having a light social calendar for up to 5-7 days afterwards, to allow for healing and inflammation to subside.

You should not touch the area for at least six hours following treatment; detailed post care instructions will be given to you.

How much does it cost?

Dermal fillers are charged per 1ml syringe. Dr Guerra will assess how much you will require in order to achieve the result you desire and give you a costing prior undergoing any treatment.

What are the benefits of having treatment done by a dentist?

What is a Peel?

 A peel is a skin care treatment where mild acid is applied to promote exfoliation of the skin to help remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, loosen and remove blackheads. They help treat acne, pigmentation, reduce pore size, sun damage and rosacea, also promote collagen production which plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They have also been proven to help even out mild acne scarring over time.

How much does a peel cost?

Dr Guerra recommends doing a series of 6 peels at 3-6 week intervals to optimise the effects on the skin. Also purchasing a pack of peels is more cost effective. After a comprehensive skin analysis to identify skin type, Dr Guerra tailors a specific plan to address your specific rejuvenation and facial enhancement goals.

What types of peels do you have?

At Morphett Vale Dental Care we offer enzymatic peels and we call them “GLOWING peels” they are an amazing way to start refreshing and restoring the appearance of the skin. We use a full range of peels such as lactic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid and AHA/BHA peels. Dr Guerra will carry out a full skin analysis and tailor treatment specifically for you.

Is there a down time after having peels? 

Peels can be light, medium or deep. The procedure is quite safe, effective and the amount of down time afterwards depends on the type of peel used. 

Do the treatments hurt, and how long will they take?

Light chemical peels, there is mild itchiness or warmth in the skin for a few minutes. The treatments usually take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on what else is being done.
